Specialized Assistance

Accessibility & Mobility

At Air North, Yukon’s Airline, we’re committed to helping every traveller move through their journey with dignity, care, and confidence. If you require extra assistance, our team is here to support you every step of the way.

While we will always do our best to assist with short notice, letting us know at least 48 hours before your flight helps us ensure the right support and services are in place for your journey.

How We Can Help

Your team can provide assistance with;

  • Check-in,
  • Getting to and from the boarding area,
  • Boarding and disembarking the aircraft,
  • Stowing and retrieving carry-on and checked baggage,
  • Moving to and from the lavatory,
  • Getting to public areas or connecting with another airline’s representative,
  • Transferring between mobility aids and your seat,
  • Checking in with you during the flight if you need anything,
  • Reviewing emergency procedures and cabin layout with you and your attendant (if applicable).

To arrange assistance, please contact our Reservations team at 1.800.661.0407 (toll-free in North America) or (867) 668.2228

Before You Travel

To help us support you as smoothly as possible, we recommend arriving at the airport with plenty of time before departure.

  • Dawson City, Inuvik, and Old Crow departures: One and a half (1.5) hours prior to scheduled departure
  • All other destinations: Two (2) hours prior to scheduled departure

If you are travelling with a mobility aid that has removable parts, we recommend packing those components in your checked baggage to help avoid loss or damage during travel.

At The Airport

After check-in, we encourage you to proceed to the gate as soon as you are able. This allows our team time to provide any assistance you may need, including support with mobility devices.

To help us prepare for your journey, we kindly ask that you;

  • Bring any instructions or handling details for your mobility aid,
  • Pack any specialized tools required for assembly or disassembly,
  • Let us know in advance if your mobility aid has spillable batteries, as handling requirements may vary depending on the device and airline regulations.

Please note that if a mobility device needs to be tilted during loading or stowing, spillable batteries must be removed and packaged by the traveller or their companion.

Travellers who require assistance will be invited to board the aircraft first.

Arriving At Your Destination

As part of our standard process, travellers requiring assistance are invited to remain seated until most other travellers have disembarked. This helps our team safely and comfortably provide support.

If your mobility aid was disassembled before departure, our team will reassemble it upon arrival whenever possible. If needed, we can also provide an airport wheelchair to assist you to baggage claim or your next connection.

We are also happy to assist with transfers to other airlines or ground transportation as required.

Mobility Aids

We are pleased to carry a wide range of mobility aids to support your travel experience.
The following items are carried at no additional cost;

  • Wheelchairs,
  • Walkers, canes, crutches, and braces,
  • Communication devices,
  • Prosthetics and other medical assistive devices.

If your device cannot be safely stored on board, we will transport it as checked baggage at no charge. If you need it up to the gate, our team can also tag it at check-in or the gate so it is available for you upon arrival.

Manual Wheelchairs

If you are travelling with your own wheelchair, please let us know in advance. While no special process is required, advance notice allows our team to better prepare to assist you.

Powered Mobility Aids

Some battery-powered wheelchairs or scooters may not be accepted due to aircraft space limitations or battery type restrictions.

We can accommodate powered mobility aids within the following limits;

  • Maximum dimensions: 103 cm x 75 cm x 77 cm (40.5 in x 29.5 in x 30.5 in)
  • Maximum weight: 180 kg (400 lb)

Please contact our Reservations team before travel so we can confirm whether your device can be accepted and ensure everything is ready for your journey.

Onboard Wheelchair

With at least 48 hours’ notice, we can provide an onboard wheelchair to assist with movement between your seat and the lavatory. Please contact our Reservations team to arrange this service in advance.
