About Air North
We believe air travel should be both memorable and enjoyable, and all of our departments, from catering to IT, cabin crew to cargo, work diligently to make this a reality.
Air North, Yukon’s Airline is 100% owned by Yukoners, and that ownership is woven into everything we do. One in 15 Yukoners holds an equity or employment stake in our airline, a fact that shapes how we operate, what we strive for, and how we treat the people flying with us.
We’ve spent decades connecting Yukon communities to each other and to the rest of Canada, and we take that responsibility seriously. From our Flight Kitchen to our Cargo team, every part of Air North is built around the idea that travel should feel worth it — comfortable, welcoming, and genuinely enjoyable.
Vuntut Development Corporation
The Vuntut Development Corporation (VDC) is the economic arm of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation. It is a for-profit company that owns interest in Air North, a road and quarry construction company, real estate holdings in Old Crow and Whitehorse, and an exciting eco-adventure company offering world class grizzly bear viewing opportunities in the northern Yukon.
VDC aims to balance economic development and the natural environment while respecting the traditional lifestyle and culture of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation. Its goal is to play a major role in the creation of a diversified, balanced, and sustainable economy in North Yukon, an economy that provides prosperity and certainty for the future for all Vuntut Gwitchin. VDC also is a major sponsor of cultural, recreational, social, and environmental initiatives throughout the Yukon.
The History of Air North
Air North, Yukon’s Airline was founded in 1977 by Joe Sparling and Tom “Ace” Wood as Air North Charter and Training. What started as charter flights for the mining industry and flight training services grew into something much larger, but forever rooted in the North.
Chieftain Energy
As part of the Air North brand, our subsidiary, Chieftain Energy, offers commercial fuel and lubricants, home heating fuel delivery, bulk fuel, and cardlock operations across the territory. Like Air North, Chieftain is built on the same commitment to reliable service in a place where reliability really matters.
Black Wolf Bistro
The Black Wolf Bistro opened at the Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport in July 2024, bringing food services back to the terminal after a six-year absence. Managed by Chef Michael Bock and his team — the same team behind Air North’s Flight Kitchen — the bistro serves travellers and locals alike from the airport’s second floor before security.
Sponsorship
Through our Spirit in Action sponsorship program, we support initiatives across the communities we serve. From sport and culture to wellness, education, and diversity, we invest in the things that make northern communities strong.
Life At Air North
With almost 500 employees, Air North has grown into one of the Yukon’s largest employers. It’s a big team, but a close one, and a career where people tend to stay, grow, and feel connected to something beyond their job description.
