WHITEHORSE, YUKON - April 1, 2013 - Air North, Yukon's Airline today announced that it is doubling the size of its fleet with the purchase of 10 Airbus A380 aircraft, the world's largest passenger aircraft.
"We heard loud and clear from our passengers that they'd love for us to fly around the world," said Joe Sparling, Air North's President. "So we figured – well, if we're going to do that, we might as well get the biggest plane there is."
New routes flown by the aircraft will be Whitehorse to London (Ontario), Whitehorse to Sydney (Nova Scotia) and Whitehorse to Whitehorse – a route so innovative that no airline has tried such a pairing before.
"Our passengers tell us that when they fly with us they feel like they're home before they get home," said Sparling. "So we figured – what if our aircraft was your home? You board the aircraft in the evening, we fly around as you sleep - and then land back in Whitehorse in time for you to go to work. Your only worry will be finding parking at the airport."
Innovative new amenities featured aboard Air North's aircraft will be a gambling hall complete with chandelier, hourly can-can dancing and yoga classes, and a puppy pen where passengers can play with huskies. And, as a special treat for cheechakos, sour toe cocktails will be available free of charge in all cabins.
The first A380, to be christened the S.S. Klondike, will be delivered in 2049 – just in time for the airline's 72nd anniversary.
We hope you enjoyed our 2013 April Fool's joke!
