WHITEHORSE, Yukon - February 1, 2012 - Air North, Yukon's Airline is proud to launch its 35th Anniversary today.
To kick off the celebration, the airline is announcing the 35 Days, 35 Flights Giveaway. Each day, from February
1 to March 6, 2012, Air North will give away a round-trip flight on either our south or north schedule - the
choice is up to the winner.
In addition, the contest winner will receive a one-year subscription to Yukon, North of Ordinary, Air North's in-flight magazine - which celebrates its 5th anniversary this year.
The contest is available on our website, at flyairnorth.com.
"We're excited to have the opportunity to say thank you to our customers," Joesph T. Sparling, Air North's president, said.
On February 1, 1977, Joseph T. Sparling and Tom Wood founded Air North Charter and Training Limited, with a single Cessna 206. Thirty-five years later, Air North's fleet is comprised of Boeing 737-500, -400, -200 jet aircraft and Hawker Siddeley 748 turboprops.
"We never imagined that the company would fly Boeing 737 jet aircraft - nor that we would join forces with the Vuntut Development Corporation and the people of Old Crow - and grow to become such an important part of the Yukon economy," said Joe Sparling.
Nor could Joe Sparling or Tom Wood have predicted that in 2011 Air North's Boeing 737 fleet would clock 1.9 million miles, or that the airline would have 209 employees in the Yukon alone (271 in total). Or that we would innovate unique in-flight service such as warm cookies, of which 60,000 were served in 2011 alone!
Air North, Yukon's Airline is a proud community supporter, something which Yukoners can expect to continue well into the future.
"The most important thing to us is to say thank you," Joe said. "We didn't just call ourselves 'Yukon's Airline.' We had to earn it. And it's Yukoners – who've supported us as employees, shareholders, customers and friends - that have made us who we are."
